IBM was the largest middleware vendor, while Oracle and Microsoft were the next two largest vendors.<br \/>\nThe fastest-growing larger vendor (over $100 million in revenue) was business process management software provider Pegasystems. Appian and Lombardi Software, which was acquired by IBM in January 2009, also grew in the middle double digits.<br \/>\nPerhaps, the most notable growth was VMware&#8217;s, which acquired SpringSource in 2009. Since the acquisition, the SpringSource middleware portfolio grew 100% to $18 million in 2009.<br \/>\nAt 8.2% growth, Asia\/Pacific was the fastest-growing region. It accounted for 14.5% share of the market.
