Excel Software today announced PluginFMQLRT 1.0 for FileMaker developers and PluginXojoQLRT 1.0 for Xojo developers on Mac and Windows. PluginFMQLRT is a FileMaker plugin that embeds the QuickLicense runtime in a FileMaker Pro Advanced solution that is distributed as a standalone application. PluginXojoQLRT is a Xojo plugin (Xojo was formerly called RealBasic). All protection, activation and licensing capabilities in the QuickLicense system are available to the application. A company can protect software from piracy and increase revenue by supporting a wide range of license types, activation processes and advanced licensing features.

PluginFMQLRT and PluginXojoQLRT are used with QuickLicense. The developer configures all aspects of the software license with QuickLicense and builds a tiny encrypted Ticket file. That Ticket file is bound to an application with a function call to the plugin in a FileMaker script or by adding a line of Xojo code. By focusing on value added customer solutions rather than internal protection, activation and licensing features, the vendor gains productivity and deployment flexibility.

FileMaker and Xojo developers enjoy a quick, integrated solution for almost any software protection, activation or licensing requirement. The application calls a simple function to access runtime commands with fast, streamlined security. With a small disk and memory footprint, the runtime allows one software build to support Trial, Product, Subscription, Floating, Try/Buy or Educational licenses. The activation process for protected software will support manual, semi-automated or fully automated activation through an online activation server.

While one license command is sufficient for many applications, the runtime library supports dozens of command strings to access all the licensing features available in the QuickLicense system. Runtime commands include license release, restore, reset, suspend, remote enabling of features, field read and write, plus data send and receive through the activation server.

PluginFMQLRT and PluginXojoQLRT add to the Excel Software protection and licensing solutions for Mac OS X, Windows and Android software that includes QuickLicense, QuickLicense Server, LicenseSupport, WebActivation, AirLicense, OfficeProtect, DocProtect, AppProtect, LicenseCard, Android License SDK, QLRT Xcode and the Safe Activation Service. For example, a protected application built with these plugins can run on client computers within a customer network controlled by a floating license server generated with the QuickLicense Server product.

When used with the optional Safe Activation service, the entire online purchase, payment processing, delivery, support and activation process can be automated with builtin or external shopping cart software or services. Safe Activation is integrated with many payment processors and shopping cart services including PayPal, Authorize.Net, Google Wallet and Amazon.

Excel Software announced ClickInstall 3.0 with major enhancements for building highly customized software and patch installers for Mac OS X software.

ClickInstall 3.0 adds the ability to create a desktop alias to the installed application, generate an installer patch, build a batch of installers with one button click, apply a custom icon to the installer or apply a computer unique password or serial number activation to the install process. The vendor can generate a password for each user computer using ClickInstall or fully automate the install process with an online activation server. The Safe Activation service or self-hosted WebActivation product from Excel Software supports Serial Number controlled protected installers.

A desktop alias file created during installation can launch the application. An installation patch can add, modify or delete files and folders in an existing installation. A patch file for a large application may substantially reduce the file size and download or install time. The batch installer command builds multiple installers with one button click.

ClickInstall presents an elegant installer window with custom logo, icon and background images. The developer can include a web link to the company or product page, copyright notice, license agreement with required confirmation, help or release notes. An executable can run before installation to confirm system requirements or after installation to complete custom actions. The installer window title, buttons and text can be customized for any human language with Unicode text encoding.

ClickInstall has the ability to split a large setup file into multiple files or CDs. During the installation process the user is prompted to insert the next CD. Users with slow Internet access can download multiple smaller files, then double-click the Setup file for a seamless install. ClickInstall can build a Mac software installer streamlined for a PPC processor, Intel processor or with Universal Binaries for any Mac OS X computer.

During development, each installer record holds the information needed to build a full or patch installer. Select a record and click to generate one installer or a batch of installers ready for a CD or web site.

ClickInstall generates royalty-free installers for any number of products with a one-time licensing fee of $395. The package includes a printed and PDF manual with a downloadable trial edition and web video demonstration.

Apple iPad 2 useful for college?
I am going to college next year, and I already have an Apple iMac (newest model) but I obviously can’t take that to class. So would an iPad be useful for taking to class for taking notes? I don’t want to buy a $1,000+ laptop, and iPads are only $499. And I can use my wireless keyboard with it (from my iMac). So would an iPad 2 be useful for college? And does anyone have one and how is it? Easy to take notes, email…etc etc. Thanks!

I need something that I can easily watch movies on listen to music and of course to school work. I love to game and currently own a iPod touch and am super pleased with it. If I spend my money I want to spend it well anyother suggestions would be great I would like all views. I have looked at laptops and am worried i will have to spend $1000+ on a good laptop to do as i please. The only problem i have with the netbooks is how slow they are. 1 other thing is that i am willing to buy a keyboard for the ipad, (if you do recomend an ipad would a 32gb be adequate for my uses {i usually rent movies so they dont stay on my itunes account} or will i need the 64gb?) All opnions are greatly appreciated!!!

APACHE CONTINUUM VERSION 1.3.6 BETA 1
The Apache Continuum team have released a beta of Apache Continuum 1.3.6.

Apache Continuum is a continuous integration server, which offers automated builds, role-based security, release management and integration with build tools and source control management systems. The project aims to improve quality and maintain a consistent build environment.

This beta introduces updates to the error handling if deleting a project fails, and has fixed the invalid links when generating pdf of continuum-docs. Untested platforms have been removed from the installation docs, and the LDAP configuration documentation has been updated.

A PDF version of the Continuum docs is planned for some point in the future. See the Release Notes for more information.

The working copy is automatically refreshed if changes are detected in the file system. This is done in order to update the state of the resources modified by external applications.

You can configure the repository connections timeout and stop non-responsive repository browsing operations.

Added support for importing files into a repository.

Working copy resources can be replaced with their HEAD or BASE revision.

Operations correctly take into account obstructed resources.

The history for a resource deleted from the repository but which is still present in the working copy is now displayed by properly detecting the revision at which the resource was deleted.

The Branch/Tag action can be performed directly on the repository, without having a working copy previously checked out.

JIRA Studio 2.0 has been released and is available to customers.
